OUR MUSIC

Mr. Shambo and I began our record collection in the 60’s.  I still have a lot of those LPs and maintain a turntable – just in case!  (The albums pictured above are from our collection).   From there we had those big 8-track tapes (in our first boat) which played at the very first BJ’s Cove.  They were quickly followed by cassette tapes and then finally CDs.  We were able to duplicate most of our music digitally except for 2 collections, which have in the past couple of years, finally become available! 

When Apple introduced the iPod and iTunes, I was in heaven. In fact, I still have my original iPod operational.  I spent weeks entering all our CDs into the Library.  I didn’t just enter the complete albums, though. I went through every song on every CD and only entered the “good” tracks.  For the past 22 years, we have amassed a collection of over 5,000 “good” tracks. 

This collection forms the music of BJ’s Cove.

Mr. Shambo was excited a few years ago to discover a Radio channel called Yacht Rock.  He and I both became quickly disappointed with the song selection.  First off, no Jimmy Buffett?  Are you kidding us??  No one who has ever gone boating in the USA and ended up at a great storied bar like the Tiki Bar in Islamorada or Sloppy Joe's in Key West, or some waterfront dive anywhere has done it without the music of Jimmy Buffett.   Besides that, they only played the same 40 songs over and over.  We have been recreational boating, fishing, and sailing for 60 years and have listened to such a variety of music!  So here's the plan:

BJ's Cove is going to play REAL Yacht Rock for people that have actually been on a boat!  We will play one Jimmy Buffett song every single hour!  We will play a song with a boating theme twice per hour!!  And, we will play a tribute song to our Veterans twice per day at 10 and 4 ET.  The rest of the time we will randomly play songs from the BJ's Cove Library.  You will have no idea what is coming next and, neither will I.  But trust me, your 1st Mate, it will be good!
